Drenched in a seamless gloss finish, the Lamp Black surface takes on the quality of liquid obsidian. The hand-sculpted cells create a rhythmic topography where light doesn't just sit on the surface; it flows across it, pooling in the resin "windows" to create layers of deep, crystalline reflection.As the environment changes, the black-on-black textures react to the light—the lustrous, raised surfaces capture the room’s energy while the resin-coated shapes pulse with a sharp, glass-like glow. Growing up in the Netherlands, my fondest childhood memories were etched not on land, but on water. This painting depicts our family Lemster Aak, the iconic traditional Dutch sailboat that felt like a second home.My art is a way of preserving these foundational moments. To capture the feeling of both the boat on the waves and the wetness of the memory itself, I finished this piece with a high-gloss resin coat. My journey as an artist is defined by a dual perspective. As a Swiss-Dutch painter based in Zurich, my work is an ongoing dialogue between two worlds: the vibrant, storytelling tradition of my Dutch roots and the structured, serene precision of my Swiss surroundings.For me, color isn't a choice, it’s how I process reality. I have always seen the world in high-definition; a simple lemon or a shadow on a peak isn't just a shape, it’s an electric vibration. My work is an attempt to translate that intensity so others can see it too.I am fascinated by the 'glow' that happens when light hits a surface. By layering heavy acrylics with selective resin, I create a tactile landscape on the canvas. These pieces don't just sit on a wall; they are designed to pulse, bringing a living, breathing energy into your space.Beyond the studio, my inspiration is fueled by the landscapes of my two homes. Whether it’s the reflection of the North Sea or the sharp shadows on a Swiss peak, I am always 'collecting' colors. I believe that art is most powerful when it’s personal, and I am grateful to share my perspective with you.
